Making improvements to comfort

My spouse & I both grew up & went to school in the south.

  • My pal and I were genuinely accustomed to temperatures soaring into the nineties & running the air conditioning unit just about year round.

Moving to Elgin, IL, a few years ago was a big transition. My pal and I had never seen snow before, the movies make the winter weather appeach almost magical; In reality, it’s a superb deal of work & expense. My spouse & I needed to invest in heavy boots, hats, gloves, sweaters, snow shovels & ice scrapers, then our first winter in Elgin was especially difficult, no matter how we bundled up & no matter how high we set the control unit, we were regularly cold; Stepping outside to shovel snow or scrape ice off the windshield of the vehicle was torture. I decided that if we were going to stay in Elgin, we needed to make some improvements. I did some research online & contacted a local Heating, Ventilation & A/C company. I made a list of ways to tighten up the home, elevate comfort & reduce energy costs. Some of the tasks were minor & inhigh-priced while others were a considerable investment & required professional service. On our own, my spouse & I managed to install a fresh layer of insulation in the attic. My pal and I weatherstripped doors, caulked around windows & filled in any cracks that we found. My pal and I hired Heating, Ventilation & A/C companys to handle air duct sealing, furnace service & a control unit replace. My pal and I have plans to add ceiling fans to help push heated air downward in the winter & upward in the summer. My pal and I are also hoping to replace all of the outdated windows with thermal paned, Energy Star rated options.
