Making improvements to comfort

My husband & I both grew up & went to school in the south, then my fantastic friend and I were easily accustomed to hot & cold temperatures soaring into the nineties & running the air conditioner just about year round.

  • Moving to Elgin, IL, a few years ago was a immense transition.

My fantastic friend and I had never seen snow before, however the motion pictures make the winter weather appear almost magical, however in reality, it’s a good deal of labor & expense. My husband & I needed to invest in heavy boots, hats, gloves, blazers, snow shovels & ice scrapers, and our first winter in Elgin was especially difficult… No matter how my buddy and I bundled up & no matter how high my buddy and I set the temperature control, my buddy and I were regularly cold, stepping outside to shovel snow or scrape ice off the windshield of the car was torture. I decided that if my buddy and I were going to stay in Elgin, my buddy and I needed to make some improvements. I did some research online & contacted a local Heating & Air Conditioning supplier. I made a list of ways to tighten up the home, elevate comfort & reduce energy bills. Some of the jobs were minor & incostly while others were a considerable investment & required professional service. On our own, my husband & I managed to install a fresh layer of insulation in the attic. My fantastic friend and I weatherstripped doors, caulked around windows & filled in any cracks that my buddy and I found. My fantastic friend and I hired Heating & Air Conditioning specialists to handle ductwork sealing, heating system repair & a temperature control update. My fantastic friend and I have plans to add ceiling fans to help push heated air downward in the winter & upward in the summer. My fantastic friend and I are also hoping to update all of the aged windows with thermal paned, Energy Star rated options.
