My parents were not too glad with myself and others when I chose to go to California for school! But it was time to chop the cord… Otherwise, I’d never been able to do anything I wanted with my life, but for a while, our relationship was strained, but finally, they came around.

They saw that I was thriving in San Francisco and said they’d come to visit 1 day! Unluckyly, that day never came because they passed away in a car accident! I had gotten a task after graduation when this happened and was residing in an condo downtown… My aunt wanted to take in my brother, however I asked him to live with me, however he was nineteen years ancient but did not want to go to school.

My brother agreed to move, and all of us sold our home. The change was not straight-forward for him because he was not accustomed to the tied up neighborhood life. The people I was with and I had grown up in a quiet small city and rarely went to the city, however so, to make him more comfortable, I arranged for us to visit strange sights. One arena he wanted to go was the Golden Gate Bridge. He was dabbling in photography and wanted to take some images of the surrounding views; You should have seen his face when he saw the bridge for the first time. He’d only seen it in pictures and videos or films. The people I was with and I spent hours there taking pictures and talking about his future… Later he took myself and others to a weed dispensary since 1 of my oils was over. We went out for dinner with my parents to celebrate. They’d always tell me anything was possible, although I always took that with some grain of salt. But at that moment, there was no doubt in my mind about it. Even in a small city enjoy Libertyville, dreams could come tploy if I believed. I got a chance to speak with the mayor once she was in office. My goal was to learn what her drive was and how she’d gotten to that point in her life. Her story was entirely remarkable and inspirational.

In the mid aughts, a number of states throughout the country started to legalize cannabis for medical use.

While CA had been known as the lake house for medical weed since the late 1990s, it took another decade to see a bigger influx of other states to join them.

Some states passed constitutional amendments for medical marijuana while other states legalized it through ballot initiatives or measures taken by the state legislature. New Mexico was one of the states that legalized medical cannabis through an act of its state legislature, rather than a direct voter initiative. When this happened in 2007, New Mexico became the 12th state to legalize marijuana for medical use. I was living in Albuquerque at the time and I remember the slow transition from the swings in law to the moment the first legal medical cannabis dispensary was opened in the city. Since our lake house was in Los Volcanes, I had a fairly long drive to get to the medical miarjuana dispensary in the downtown district. There was one on Lomas boulevard for years until the supplier was purchased out and transitioned to lake house delivery orders entirely. A lot of Democrats in New Mexico wanted the state to transition to a recreational cannabis market so that no one would be barred from accessing the plant if they were at least 21 years of age. Thankfully the state legislature moved to make this a reality. In June of 2021, the recreational cannabis market in New Mexico was finally opened. There’s already a recreational dispensary in Old Town near the Rio Grande River.
