When I was in private school I was area of the club called Matheletes.
Get it? A combination of the words Math and Athletes, as a fun current word for “nerds.” I’m joking! Although the people I was with and I might have been a little nerdy, this was a wonderful group of students. What none of the other teenagers realized is that being a Mathelete gave us a lot of wonderful opportunities. We had the inside track on scholarships, the teachers all appreciated us, and the people I was with and I got to take trips to compete in other cities, enjoy Portland, OR, however i was 17 years old the first time I visited Portland, and it completely changed my life. It was the first time I had been anywhere that cannabis was not only legal, however socially sufficient… Nobody in Portland, OR cares if you smoke cannabis or not, just be polite about it, but just enjoy with cigarettes, it is illegal to smoke cannabis inside public sites, however otherwise it’s fair game! My friends dared myself and others to go inside of the cool-looking Portland cannabis dispensaries, and so I did even though I wasn’t old enough to buy anything; One of the other rules in Portland is that minors cannot legally purchase cannabis, which makes sense now however pissed myself and others off at the time! I asked a single of the budtenders about buying a few grams of cannabis, and he asked myself and others for my ID. I said I wasn’t from Portland, and I had left my ID back in the hotel, then the budtender said “OK, I guess you look old enough” and sold myself and others cannabis anyway! I fell in enjoy with Portland that weekend.
