Making energy saving improvements

I’ve added ceiling fans in many of the rooms, using them to create a cooling effect in the summer and to distribute the heat more evenly in the winter

Living in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, means dealing with every weather extreme. The average annual temperature fluctuates from eighteen to eighty-nine degrees Fahrenheit. The winters bring brutal wind chill, snow and concerns with overly dry heat. The summers are a challenge because of excessive humidity and thunderstorms. While I enjoy the diversity of four separate seasons, I don’t like spending money on high utility bills. I am always searching for opportunities to prevent energy waste, improve efficiency and trim costs. Fortunately, I’ve found a very reputable HVAC company in Lee’s Summit that provides a variety of helpful services. I hired them to upgrade the level of insulation in the walls and ceilings, complete effective duct sealing and install a smart thermostat. I’ve enrolled in their maintenance program that includes upkeep for the air conditioner in the spring and for the furnace in the fall. The technician inspects all components, cleans and makes any necessary adjustments or repairs. I make sure to regularly replace the air filters in the heating and cooling units. Every year, I inspect the exterior and interior of the house and fill in any gaps with caulk or weatherstripping. I’ve gradually replaced all the windows, investing into Energy Star rated improvements. I’ve added ceiling fans in many of the rooms, using them to create a cooling effect in the summer and to distribute the heat more evenly in the winter. Despite all my efforts, the cost of heating and cooling adds up to about half of our household energy consumption. I am considering a much larger investment into a new, more efficient furnace and air conditioner.
