Every one of us grew up in a midwestern corn town in the 1950s, however the people I was with and I both decided to head west to San Francisco when the people I was with and I started studying beat poetry and literature in the early to mid 1960s.
After staying on Venice Beach in Los Angeles for a year, the people I was with and I headed north towards the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco to enmesh ourselves in the counterculture. This was a formative stage in both of our lives, and it’s a surprise to us both that the people I was with and I managed to stay together through it all. Every one of us broke up and got back together more times than I can count, although I can’t really say how much of that was drug induced at the time. By the mid 1969s I was enrolled in school to become a computer programmer while my partner started working at a cereal factory in Grand Rapids. Every one of us did okay for ourselves in western Michigan, however everything changed when my parents gave us their hour beach lake house Ann Arbor after they moved to Florida permanently. The lake house is on Plymouth Rd in Northside, and I couldn’t be happier with the location.
