Since Lakeland, FL doesn’t really have a harsh winter season, I spend all my time prepping for the summer. In the winter is my time to take a break from cooling, heat, and humidity. In the wintertime I turn off my HVAC unit, open the windows and enjoy a fresh breeze. I also do a bunch of outdoor work, typically do a remodeling project, and anything that has me working up a sweat. Once the heat comes in Lakeland, then I am really in trouble. I then have to fire up the AC system and just linger around inside. That is when I start gutting a bathroom, scraping popcorn ceilings, or redoing something inside of the home. I miss being outside and doing yard work. The heat is just too intense. You either need to get up super early in the morning, go outside late at night, or just give up altogether. What I do is just look forward to the cold times all year. It isn’t really cold, but it is the best we have. I own radiant floor heating to combat the chillier times. That works just fine for my household. I have tile flooring throughout and the heating system warms it through electric mats under the floorboards. It is silent, electric based and the heat doesn’t rise. It also doesn’t stir up dust or create hot and cold spots due to the electric heating. It works perfectly for colder temperatures. In the summer I make do with a high velocity cooling unit that works to chill my entire house for months on end.
I ended up really liking Elgin, Illinois

If you are willing to move and transfer to a different branch, you can make quite a bit of money.
I recently got offered a big promotion and huge pay raise if I was willing to move to Elgin, Illinois. I was a bit concerned. First off, there isn’t much to do in Elgin, Illinois. Also, the weather scared me. The winter season is long, brutal, and gets below freezing. Snow, ice, and cold aren’t my friends. I realized that if I wanted to make the big bucks, I had to. I decided I would only live there three years and then ask to move again. Just enough to get my raise and not cause any red flags. I have to say, I like Elgin, Illinois. I like the small town vibe that it gives off. If I want to do stuff in the city, I just need to hop in the car and drive 40 minutes and I am in Chicago. I also like the cold weather. I used to live where we got no snow and severe heat most of the year. It was so nice to wear pants and a jacket. I liked that I could easily burn a fire or turn on my heated flooring system. It was simple. The cold looked good from the window. My kids also loved playing hockey, ice skating, sledding, and snowboarding. I was able to afford a huge house with a big yard in Elgin, Illinois. So my three year plan is moot. I am hoping we stay here for a very long time. I really like where I am now.
I really enjoyed a different part of Florida
I recently found a band that I have always wanted to see.
They never come to my area and this year I decided I would fly to wherever to see them. Even if they were overseas, I would do it. I was happily surprised when they came to Flirda. They didn’t come to my city, but St. Petersburg. That is okay with me. St. Petersburg, FL is about a three hour drive for me. It is just long enough to suck but be doable. My mother and I both love the band so I made her come along with me. We enjoyed the road trip and booked ourselves a wonderful hotel. We got massages, facials and swam in the pool. Then we ate at the hotel and enjoyed the concert venue which was walking distance. It was totally worth the expense and the drive. I found that I really enjoyed St. Petersburg. It was never a location that was on my radar. Why would I want to drive three hours to experience the same things I get? Well the weather is actually quite a bit hotter. They get less cold winter nights than we do. They also have the perks of the city, without it feeling like a city. I don’t think I would move there due to it being such a troutis draw. They have all sorts of boat tours, dinner cruises, and booze things to do for people that come to Florida. I don’t really want to mingle with those sorts of people at all.
A boiler works great in Missouri
When I moved to Missouri, I wasn’t pleased that I got put into Springfield.
My place of work landed in Springfield, MO for me.
There isn’t too much to do. The sights aren’t that amazing, the city isn’t too big, and there aren’t any major parks or anything. The weather is quite brutal as well. There are periods of intense cold and a hot summer season. The priority for me was home comfort. I invested in a top of the line air conditioner and a powerful heating device. I was sold on a boiler system. At first I was a bit worried. The cost of a boiler is downright obscene. However, when you consider all the things a boiler system can do, it is more than worth the cost. A boiler can be hooked up to baseboards or radiators to provide heat. You can also make it the family hot water heater. A boiler can have piping connected to it to be heated flooring, a snowmelt system, or be a pool heater. Another benefit of owning a boiler system is the lifespan. It can live around 50 years! With proper maintenance and service, a boler could actually be around 80 years old. The only reason people replace boilers is because they are so old and replacement parts aren’t being made for their model anymore. Isn’t that crazy? So I felt pretty good about buying a boiler for my Missouri home. The cold weather warrants such an intense heater. I also like that I probably won’t ever have to buy another heater again if I am lucky. That is a pretty good feeling.
Changed to a gas fireplace
When I moved into my South Bend home I figured the house fireplace would do the trick.
I thought there was something romantic about a wood burning fireplace.
I was very excited to chop wood, store it and have that smell around the house. Turns out the wood burns really fast and it takes a ton of wood to heat an entire home. It was constant work. All summer long I was working to create a huge stockpile in order to heat my home for the winter. It just wasn’t good enough. Indiana can get days of ice, cold, and below freezing temperatures. There also can be months of cold too. So the wood burning fireplace ended up being removed. It took up space and couldn’t get its job done. I hated cutting wood by the end of it too. I ended up contacting a South Bend HVAC dealer and asking about a gas fireplace. This was a much better solution. Getting gas was way easier. Any issues with the system I could call an Indiana heating repair dealer. It was quick, easy, and I had heating whenever I wanted it. The fireplace looked way more elegant than a wood burning one too. I had a gorgeous wood mantle and a marble front to it. I really like that I updated this. In South Bend you can’t really take a chance on heating. You have to have a game plan unless it gets super cold. Changing from a wood burning to a gas model was simple. Just call your local South Bend heating dealer and get it done.
Honeymoon in Tuscaloosa was beautiful
My husband and I got married and honeymooned in Alabama.
It was during COVID that the two of us were planning on getting married.
At first we thought of doing a big wedding at home. Well with the virus and all the travel restrictions, it would have been a nightmare. Then I thought about the two of them eloping overseas. There were very few locations that would allow Americans. I also worried we would get stuck in a foreign country for a very long time. So the two of us ended up picking a place within the United States. I picked Alabama due to the flowers, foliage, and the availability. I also liked that the time of year we were getting married was quite nice in Alabama. It was around their winter season but wasn’t brutally cold for us. The outdoors still looked good and I got a photographer for hardly any money since it wasn’t peak season. We got to be photographed in a park, on the streets and with some very stunning natural backgrounds. Our photoshoot actually was in Tuscaloosa. I had never heard fTuscaloosa, AL before I got married. Now I have very fond memories. I have the photographs up in my house and people just love them. Everyone notices the stunning backgrounds and assumes we went somewhere excotic rather than just a few states away and in a small city. We saved a whole bunch of money and really had a great honeymoon in Alabama. I would definitely go back there again and enjoy the trip just as much.

My husband and I go on a motorcycle trip every year.
- Our goal is to hit all fifty United States and take our picture in front of the welcome sign.
We are doing really well so far. Our most recent trip had us to the west. We headed all the way to California. We honestly thought that state would be the highlight. Honestly I enjoyed Arizona a lot more. I loved the desert feel they had going on. All the different cacti and plants were so cool. That orange dirt and bright green plant life was a good contrast. I am a photographer, not professionally but as a hobby. I really enjoyed taking stills of hte landscapes and seeing all sorts of neat stuff. We went to Papago Park and I really liked how all the rocks and cacti were laid out. The weather was really nice. A dry heat is much better than a humid one honestly. Being in biker gear meant long pants, jackets and leather. With the desert heat it could have been brutal. The temperatures were pleasant for us too. We had hotel air conditioning in phoenix and that was just enough for us. I recommend Arizona to anyone I know that is doing a road trip. I loved the time we spent there. Obviously we had an itinerary and had to keep to the schedule. We couldn’t stay there forever. Our goal was to get to California after all. After experiencing everything Arizona had to offer, I was almost bummed by that final state.
My AC had water all around it
I recently dealt with an AC repair in my Plano, Texas home.
It was a nightmare to deal with.
My cooling system just started leaking water and wouldn’t quit. I had a puddle around the outside of it. The cooling coil had mold on it and there was mildew on the fan blades. Anytime I cleaned it, within a week it was gross again. I had towels all around the standing water but I didn’t know what to do. So I finally had to call it. I googled Plano, Texas AC repair businesses and Texas air conditioning repair. I finally found a Plano, TX HVAC repair dealership. They were amazing. They had good ratings, great products, and the technician that arrived was friendly. The guy was so nice about explaining what was wrong with my system. Turns out the only thing that was a problem was a clogged condensate drain. The guy mucked out some algae, added more coolant,and cleaned the inner workings. After that, my air conditioner worked like a dream. When you live in Plano, TX you can’t really get by without a well working cooling system. The summer weather can get into the 90s without any kind of struggle. I knew that water around my AC was a warning sign. If I would have ignored it and had a whole system failure, that would have been awful. Right now I am just glad that I have reliable, cool AC for the start of the season. Air conditioning is a must have for a Texas household.
